Om Birla has been elected the speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha
Om Birla was elected MP for the third time from Kota seat of Rajasthan in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Was elected MP from Kota seat for the first time in 2014. Before Om Birla, Balram Jakhar of Congress was elected Lok Sabha speaker twice in 1985.Birla, born in 1962, is considered a leader who works for the organization behind the scenes. He entered politics in 1987 by joining BJP Yuva Morcha. Om Birla was also MLA from Kota South seat of Rajasthan from 2003 to 2014.-In 2019, surprising everyone, his name was proposed for the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Birla is the first Lok Sabha Speaker during whose tenure no Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker was elected. Birla also has the record of presiding over the Lok Sabha in both the old and new buildings of the Parliament.
